National Sports Commission Chairman (NSC), Mallam Shehu Dikko, at the "Evening with Dikko"organised by the office of the National Youth Leader APC, said President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is dead serious for the Nigeria's Super Eagles to qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, hence the setting up of a Presidential Task Force to help measure up Nigeria world cup qualification.
According to Shehu Dikko, " Any time I meet with Mr. President, he will ask me are we going to qualify for the World Cup?
"The President is passionate and even more worried about our qualification for the World Cup. Let's give the team all the necessary support to winning all their remaining four matches, all the matches, are like final now but the problem has already started before we came on board, it didn't start with us."
"The President, at some point wanted to set up a Task Force to help push Nigeria qualification for the World Cup, but at the end of the day. Nigerian's have to measure up their own qualification"
" We have agreed a new bonus system with the Super Eagles players, the match against Rwanda, before they played the match their match bonus was on the table, the match they played against Zimbabwe, before they played the match their match bonus was paid to them up - front, we did that and is unprecedented, it has never happened before. That's to say we as a government with the backing of the Mr. President, we are doing all that we have to do to make sure that we provide for the Super Eagles team to succeed.
" After the President's gift to the Super Falcons', Super Eagles Captain, Troost - Ekong, called me, and said. 'we've seen the President's gift to the Super Falcons, we too will deliver'.
" That's the kind of motivation we're looking for to bring into the team. if we deliver this world cup ticket, the President will be excited and only God knows what he will do for the team to support them to make sure that they do better at the world cup"
It was gathered that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, was magnanimous to release N3 billion, to the National Sports Commission to prosecute the two header World Cup qualifying matches against Rwanda and Zimbabwe last March.
