Ikoyi Club stages 2-leg Quomodo inter school swimming Grand Slam
Officials of the Ikoyi Club 1938 are currently putting finishing touches to the annual inter school swimming competition billed to take place in two legs in Lagos.
The catch them young initiative which is the third in the series is sponsored by Quomodo for primary and secondary school up and coming swimmers.
The first leg of the Swimming Grand Slam is billed for May 9th at the swimming pool section of the Ikoyi Club while the second leg takes place on June 6th at the same venue.
The Secondary School event is divided into junior secondary school (JSS) with estimated ages 10-14 and senior secondary school with estimated ages 14-17 respectively.
Swimmers will compete across the major strokes: Freestyle, Breaststroke, Backstroke, Butterfly, and Individual Medley. Distances vary depending on category, with short distances for younger swimmers and long distances for older categories
According to the Chairman of the tennis section, Ikoyi Club, Akinbulejo Onabolu, the inter-school swimming competition is designed to promote participation, teamwork, and competitive excellence among young swimmers.
“The competition will be staged in a two-leg league format, creating sustained engagement for schools, athletes, spectators, and sponsors,” he said.
Points accumulated across various events will contribute to team standings, culminating in the recognition of overall champions and outstanding swimmers.
Onabolu added: “The championship aims to promote swimming development in schools, encourage teamwork and school pride, provide a structured competitive pathway for young swimmers, and deliver an exciting sporting spectacle for spectators and partners. With multiple medal opportunities and a well-balanced event structure, the competition provides an ideal platform for youth development and strong brand visibility for sponsors.
“We have been working so hard at our level together with the sponsors to provide a good template for the young swimmers to enjoy themselves in the competition.”
The registration for this edition which is still ongoing ends on April 30.
