IGP Olatunji Disu receives Commonwealth Games Champion Nathaniel

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Disu, has received 400m Hurdles Commonwealth Games champion Corporal, Ezekiel Nathaniel at the Force Headquarters in Abuja.

Speaking during the reception, IGP Disu said the victory underscored the longstanding relationship between the Nigeria Police Force and sports.

The Police boss explained that Nathaniel’s achievement is a reminder of what police personnel can accomplish when provided with the necessary platform and support to excel both in their professional duties and sporting careers.

He said: “The Nigeria Police Force and sports have always been twins, bound together by shared values of discipline, teamwork and excellence.

“This victory is a powerful reminder of that bond, and of what our personnel can achieve when given the platform and support to thrive both in service and in competition.”

The IGP assured police athletes and personnel with sporting talents that the Force would continue to invest in and support police sports, promising to identify, nurture and celebrate talents within its ranks.

“I want Corporal Ezekiel Nathaniel, and every officer watching, to know that this Force will continue to invest in and support police sports.

“We will keep identifying, nurturing and celebrating talent within our ranks, because a Force that is strong in body and spirit is a Force that serves the nation better.”

Disu, who described himself as a sportsman, said he was particularly proud of Nathaniel’s achievement.

He added that the feat had brought honour to the officer, the Nigeria Police Force and the country.

He said: “As a sportsman myself, I take particular pride in this achievement. Corporal Ezekiel Nathaniel, you have honoured your uniform, your Force and your country. Congratulations, and may this be the first of many more victories to come.”
