With his added time red card in the final of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Argentine Enzo Fernandez becomes the sixth player to be sent off in the World Cup final.

He's also the third Argentine to suffer such ignominious exit at the world football global stage.

In the history of the FIFA World Cup before yesterday, there were exactly five players who received red cards in a World Cup final and the Chelsea of England attacker has joined the gang.

Pedro Monzón of Argentina was the first in the 1990 World Cup against West Germany while Marcel Desailly and Zinedine Zidane joined in the 1998 and 2006 World Cup. Both are Frenchmen.

John Heitinga of the Netherlands got into the group after he received a second yellow card in the extra time of the 2010 final.
