SEguma leads race for Bayelsa Utd coaching job
Former Rivers United and Enyimba FC head coach, Stanley Eguma, is the leading contender to become the new head coach of relegated Bayelsa United ahead of the 2026/27 Nigeria National League (NNL) season.
Sources close to the club indicate that Eguma is in pole position ahead of other shortlisted candidates being considered by the newly appointed Interim Management Committee, led by former Bayelsa State Head of Service, Dr. Peter Singabele.
Also on the shortlist are former Go Round FC coach Ngozi Elechi and former Bayelsa United assistant coach George Ederekumoh, who are expected to be interviewed by the committee in the coming days.
The Interim Management Committee is determined to appoint a coach capable of rebuilding the club and guiding Bayelsa United back to the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) after the Yenagoa-based side suffered relegation to the Nigeria National League.
The appointment of a substantive head coach is expected to be one of the committee's first major decisions as it begins the task of restoring the fortunes of the former NPFL campaigners.
