Who Can Stop Arsenal Going Back-to-Back in the Premier League?

The Premier League is back, and Arsenal have a new problem: they are no longer chasing the title; everyone else is coming for them. After years of nearly getting there, the Gunners finally lifted the trophy last season and have already started with a 3-0 Community Shield win over Manchester City. But Pep is gone, Liverpool have a new manager, United are trying another post-Ferguson rebuild, while Chelsea and Tottenham have been busy spending and reshaping. Arsenal have the crown. Now comes the fun part: trying not to lose it. Can someone else take the throne?

Arsenal: Something to Lose

Arsenal finally have the title, a settled squad and the confidence that their long-term project has delivered. The Community Shield win over City has only added to the optimism, and another season under Mikel Arteta should give them an advantage over several rivals still figuring themselves out.

The pressure, however, has changed. There is no more "nearly there" excuse. Arsenal are now the standard everyone else is chasing. Haramball is still available, though. The champions begin their defence against Coventry City on Friday at 9:00 pm.

Manchester City: Life Without Pep

City still have Haaland, an enormous squad and enough talent to scare most of the league, but Pep Guardiola is gone and Rodri has moved to Barcelona. Enzo Maresca now has the rather unpleasant job of following one of the greatest managers in Premier League history.

City can absolutely still win the league, but this is the first time in years that there is a genuine question over them. If the transition goes badly, Arsenal may get the breathing room they need. City begin away to Bournemouth on Sunday at 2:00 pm.

Liverpool: Starting From Scratch, Sort Of

Liverpool have the quality to challenge, but they are also entering one of their biggest transitions in years. Andoni Iraola is the new manager and the post-Mohamed Salah era has begun, meaning the new boss has very little time to settle before expectations arrive.

If Iraola can make the transition work quickly, Liverpool could be Arsenal's closest challenger. Their opening trip to Newcastle should give us an early clue. Liverpool face Newcastle on Sunday at 4:30 pm.

Manchester United: Back. Again?

United fans have heard "we are back" enough times since Ferguson left to be suspicious of the phrase, but Michael Carrick now gets a chance to turn last season's progress into something more substantial.

United have the size, resources and talent to disrupt the title race, but consistency has been the problem for years. If Carrick can solve that, United could finally become relevant at the top again. If not, the banter continues. United open their campaign away to Hull City on Saturday at 12:30 pm.

Chelsea: Too Much Talent, Not Enough Answers?

Chelsea have spent again, brought in Xabi Alonso and added more young talent to an already enormous squad. The question is no longer whether they have enough players. It is whether Alonso can turn all of them into a coherent team.

Morgan Rogers is one of the biggest additions, but with Cole Palmer already occupying the central creative role, figuring out where Rogers fits will be one of Chelsea's early tactical puzzles. Chelsea begin away to Fulham on Monday at 8:00 pm.

Tottenham: Survival Was Getting Boring

Tottenham have gone from two seasons of worrying about relegation to spending heavily and rebuilding their squad. Roberto De Zerbi now has the job of turning that investment into a team capable of pushing back towards the top six.

A title challenge may be too much to ask, but Spurs could be one of the season's biggest movers. After the last two years, simply having fans talking about European football again would be progress. Tottenham visit Brentford on Saturday at 5:30 pm.

So, Who Wins It? Our Predictions

Favourite – Arsenal: Champions, settled and already with an early win over City. They have the continuity their rivals lack.

Challenger – Liverpool: The new manager and post-Salah era bring questions, but Liverpool still have the quality to push Arsenal all the way.

Wildcard – Manchester United: Are they finally ready under Carrick? After years of post-Ferguson rebuilding, this could be the season to find out.

Biggest Loser – Manchester City: Losing Guardiola could hurt more than expected. Ask United fans what happens when you underestimate the manager.

Potential Flop – Morgan Rogers: Talented, but a huge fee, new club, new manager and new role alongside Palmer make this a tricky first season at Chelsea.
