Pastor Umo Eno Easter U-17 Unity Cup kicks off with thrilling display of football

The 5th Pastor Umo Eno Easter Under-17 Cup, organized by the Grassroots Sports Federation (GRASOF), kicked off with a thrilling match between Frank Archibong Babes Eket and Gideon Uwa FC of Etim Ekpo at the Uyo Township Stadium.

The game was a showcase of skill, talent, and sportsmanship, with both teams putting up a great fight.

Speaking to the media, Eteidung Usoro Bassey, representative of Oku Ibom Ibibio, commended the organisers for putting up such a wonderful event, saying, "This is the kind of competition we need to develop our football. The tournament is well-structured, and we're happy to be a part of it."

He also extolled His Excellency Pastor Umo Eno for his unwavering commitment towards sports and youth development in Akwa Ibom State.

The PIO Football Academy Sport Director, Coach Patrick Udoh MON, praised the organisers and Governor Umo Eno for supporting the tournament, saying, "This is the kind of initiative that aligns with ARISE that will help take football to the streets and promote youth development. We're proud to be associated with this tournament, and we look forward to more successes like this."

The KIFA Director, represented by Kanu Nwakwo Football Academy, also lauded the organisers and Governor Umo Eno for their efforts in promoting football in Akwa Ibom State.

"This tournament is a great initiative, and we're happy to be a part of it. It's a testament to the governor's commitment to sports development in the state."

The event was attended by notable dignitaries, including Chairman of Akwa Ibom State Sports Advisory Committee, Comrade Felix Udoh, Engr Uwem Umoh, President of Uyo AllStars, Grassroots Sports Federation, Alhaji Tango Ahmed, and other esteemed guests.

In his welcome address, State GRASOF Chairman Comrade Ita Peters welcomed all participants, promising a hitch-free game.

He lauded the two teams for displaying exceptional skills and talents during the opening ceremony. Comrade Peters also praised National President Hon John Ekpenyong for his commitment to discovering raw talent in Akwa Ibom State and beyond.

A total of 35 teams registered for the tournament, with 22 teams screened and selected to participate.

The competition promises to be an exciting one, with talented young players showcasing their skills.

The tournament features top-notch display of skills and is expected to attract large crowds. The next match is scheduled for tomorrow at different centers from 8am. Football fans are encouraged to come out and support their favorite teams.
