Osimhen to undergo MRI scan

Super Eagles striker, Victor Osimhen's injury situation has been revealed.

According to official account of the club, Osimhen suffered a groin injury following his substitution during Galatasaray's 3-2 victory over Istanbul Başakşehir on Friday evening.

The Turkish champions made the revelation in a statement on their official channel on Saturday morning following the initial medical assessment of the striker after the encounter.

Osimhen sustained the injury in the first half of the contest after opening the scoring for Galatasaray with a fine strike into the top corner following a pass from Lucas Torreira.

After suffering the injury, the Nigerian international was eventually substituted in the 33rd minute, with Turkish winger Barış Alper Yılmaz taking his position.

In a post on its social media account, Galatasaray confirmed that Osimhen suffered a groin injury and has commenced treatment.

"Advanced examinations, including MRI, for our players Victor Osimhen and Mario Lemina, in whom strain and pain were detected in the right adductor (groin) muscle group during yesterday's Başakşehir FK match in the 4th week of Trendyol Super Lig, and whose treatments have begun, will be completed tomorrow."

The injury has raised concerns over the availability of the former Napoli striker ahead of the return of the UEFA Champions League and the upcoming 2027 AFCON qualifiers.

While Galatasaray manager Okan Buruk will be keen to have Osimhen back in action for the clash against Sporting Lisbon, Super Eagles manager Eric Chelle will also hope to have his talisman available for the qualifiers against Madagascar and Guinea-Bissau.

Osimhen will now be keen to undergo further examinations and follow his treatment programme as he looks to make a quick recovery and return to action.
