NYGs: Team Edo continues with impressive run as athletes hail Yussuf Alli's leadership

Team Edo athletes have showered praise on the Executive Chairman, Edo State Sports Commission, Olympian Yusuf Alli, describing him as a pragmatic and unassuming leader who has been a source of inspiration to them at the National Youth Games, holding in Asaba, Delta State.
The Edo athletes said that their chairman, Alli has inspired them with his esteemed presence around them and words of encouragement since the competition started.
The Secretary, Edo Athletics Association Funke Fadare, Elijah Idahosa,Tejiri Ugoh, three star golf Chijooke Amarachi Esther, Cycling gold medalist, Divine Ogbe and others while speaking at the Stephen Keshi Stadium when athletics events took center stage, said the Edo state Sports Commission boss has surprised them with his style of motivation.
They noted that Yussuf Alli is always on ground to cheer them up during events.
They described him as a true leader who is unassuming despite his legendary and international status.
"As our athletes were waiting for the athletics event to start today, our chairman was already on ground to motivate and support them. And he has been doing this for other sports since the beginning of the Asaba Games.
"He is here from morning till closing time in the evening. He relates with us like we are his children. He does not stay with the elite class he belongs at the state box but always with the common people and athletes," Funke, Edo Athletic Association Secretary said, adding that the Edo Sports Commission treats cases and complaints brought before him promptly.
Elijah Idahosa and Tejiri Ugoh on their part said that seeing their chairman among those clapping, cheering them up gives them a sense of amazing feelings and honour which is a push for them to put in their best.
Meanwhile, the duo of Tejiri Ugoh (female) and Idahosa Elijah (Male) today won their 100m heat races to qualify for the finals of the athletic event
Tejiri Ugoh won the race after returning in 12.68 seconds to reach the female finals while Elijah Idahosa also pick the ticket to male finals of the same 100M after coming second behind Delta. Elijah Idahosa in the heat 1 returned in a time of 11:31 sec to come first.Victor Ohworuadjeke also qualified for male 100 m athletics
Team Edo posted impressive performances on day three of the ongoing Asaba Games, raking in three gold medals to surge forward. Expectedly, Team Edo won gold in Gymnastics, Cricket and Para Table Tennis events.
In the Gymnastics event, Wisdom Ikede flies to gold in Vault with a score of 12.00, while Solomon Aliu settled for silver with 11.95.
Teamwork paid off as Ivie Edogiawerie and Ovuema Oghenefijiro shine brightly with a gold in doubles para table tennis.
Solomon Oyenekan Muhammed and Daniel Okunlade Toluwalashe also won silver medal in Table Tennis Boy's' Doubles Event.
Earlier, Edo Handball team beat their Adamawa State counterpart 24-15 to book a place in the semi finals of Cricket Male event
