D’Tigress bounce back with dominant win over Philippines in World Cup Qualifiers
Nigeria women's national basketball team, popularly known as D’Tigress, produced a dominant second-half performance to defeat the Philippines women's national basketball team 101–84 in their third game of the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup Qualifiers in France.
The victory secured Nigeria’s second win in three matches in the qualification tournament.
D’Tigress entered the contest looking to respond after opening their campaign with a victory over Colombia women's national basketball team before suffering a defeat to South Korea women's national basketball team in their second outing.
The Philippines made the stronger start, edging both of the opening quarters to take a narrow lead into halftime. Nigeria trailed 26–21 after the first quarter and remained behind at the break despite matching their opponents in scoring during the second period.
However, the African champions turned the game around after halftime with a commanding display. Nigeria outscored the Philippines 34–21 in the third quarter to seize control of the contest before sealing the victory with a 25–12 advantage in the final period.
The comeback ensured a convincing win for Nigeria as they continue their qualification campaign.
D’Tigress are scheduled to face Germany women's national basketball team and hosts France women's national basketball team in their remaining fixtures of the tournament.
