Nilayo Sports mgt announces date for 2nd Enugu City International Marathon
Nilayo Sports Management Limited, Nigeria's leading sports marketing and event management company, has announced that the 2nd edition of the Enugu City International Marathon will be held on Saturday, August 29, 2026.
Following the successful inaugural edition, the marathon returns with renewed ambition to further establish Enugu State as a destination for international road racing, sports tourism, and athletic excellence.
The 2026 edition will be staged under the theme, "Tomorrow Runs Here," reflecting the event's commitment to youth empowerment, talent discovery, sustainable sports development, and the promotion of Enugu as a growing hub for global sporting events and economic activity.
The Enugu City International Marathon is designed to identify and develop indigenous long-distance running talent while attracting elite athletes from across Nigeria, Africa, and the international athletics community. The race route has been carefully designed to showcase Enugu's cultural heritage, modern infrastructure, and unique landscape, providing participants and spectators with a world-class race experience.
Commenting on the announcement, the Managing Director of Nilayo Sports Management Limited, Mrs Yetunde Olopade said:
"The Enugu City International Marathon is more than an elite road race; it is a strategic platform for talent development, economic growth, and destination branding. Under this year's theme, 'Tomorrow Runs Here,' we are creating opportunities for future champions while demonstrating the transformative impact of sports as a driver of social and economic development.
“As the technical consultants for the event, we are working closely with the Enugu State Government, the event owner, under the leadership of the Honourable Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Hon. Lloyd Ekweremadu, to deliver a seamless, secure, and internationally compliant marathon. Building on the success of the inaugural edition, our objective is to continue raising the standard of road racing in Nigeria and across West Africa."
Preparations for the event are already at an advanced stage, with comprehensive operational planning, inter-ministerial coordination, and regulatory engagements underway. Nilayo Sports Management is working in collaboration with relevant state agencies responsible for transportation, security, healthcare, environmental management, and emergency response to ensure the successful delivery of the marathon.
Registration for the 2026 Enugu City International Marathon opened on June 15, 2026. Organisers have confirmed that the prize structure will remain unchanged from the inaugural edition. While the 10-kilometre race route will remain the same, the revised 42-kilometre marathon course and the community fitness run routes will be officially unveiled in the coming weeks.
Further announcements, including route details, elite athlete participation, and event activities, will be communicated through the marathon's official channels.
