Team Nigeria celebrated another memorable day at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow as Goodness Nwachukwu shattered the world record to win gold, Jessica Oji claimed a historic silver medal, and Ezekiel Nathaniel powered into the men's 400m hurdles final as the fastest qualifier.

Nwachukwu produced the performance of her career in the women's F42-44/F61-64 discus throw, saving her biggest throw for the final round with a sensational 39.66m effort to break her own F42 world record by more than three metres and secure the Commonwealth Games title.

Her record-breaking throw saw her finish ahead of Wales' Funmi Oduwaiye (38.52m), who claimed silver, while fellow Welsh athlete Bree Cronin took bronze with 36.00m.

Nigeria's medal haul continued to grow as 19-year-old Jessica Oji announced herself on the international stage with a superb silver medal in the women's shot put. Competing in her first major championship for Nigeria, Oji recorded a best throw of 17.87m to finish second.

On the track, Commonwealth champion Ezekiel Nathaniel reinforced his medal credentials by winning Heat Two of the men's 400m hurdles in 48.69 seconds to qualify for the final as the fastest overall qualifier. The Nigerian finished ahead of England's Jake Minshull (48.88s) and India's Santhosh Tamilarasan (49.51s), setting up a strong challenge for gold in the final.

In boxing, Blessing Orakwe's campaign in the women's 70kg event came to an end after a closely contested quarterfinal against Australia's Lekeisha Pergoliti. Orakwe lost by a narrow 3-2 split decision after winning two of the five judges' scorecards, bringing to a close a spirited performance for Team Nigeria.

With more finals still to come across different events, Team Nigeria continues to build on an impressive campaign in Glasgow, delivering medals, records and performances that have reinforced the country's standing among the Commonwealth's sporting elite.
