The Chairman of the Akwa Ibom State Sports Advisory Committee, Comrade Felix Udo, has commended the administration of His Excellency, Pastor Umo Eno, PhD, Governor of Akwa Ibom State, and Distinguished Senator Dr. Ekong Sampson, PhD, for their outstanding achievements and commitment to sports development and youth empowerment in the state.

Comrade Udo made the commendation on Friday during the official endorsement and presentation of the customized tournament jerseys of the Senator Dr. Ekong Sampson Akwa Ibom South Senatorial District Unity Cup at the Uyo Township Stadium.

Receiving the Organizing Committee led by the Tournament Coordinator, Hon. John Ekpenyong, and the Tournament Technical Coach/Director, Coach Udobia Udobia, the Chairman described the Unity Cup initiative as timely, impactful, and a direct reflection of the Governor’s ARISE Agenda for youth development.

He noted that the tournament represents more than football, emphasizing its role in peace-building, community engagement, and the discovery of young new talents from the 12 Local Government Areas of Akwa Ibom South Senatorial District.

“I want to sincerely commend His Excellency, Pastor Umo Eno, PhD, for his giant strides in sports development in Akwa Ibom State. I also commend our own Distinguished Senator Dr. Ekong Sampson for sponsoring this Unity Cup. This is leadership with vision. This tournament will create opportunities for our youths to showcase their talents and foster unity across Akwa Ibom South," Comrade Udo stated.

“The Sports Advisory Committee is happy to endorse this tournament and we assure the Organizing Committee of our full moral and technical support. GRASOF is doing great work with the 'Catch Them Young' mandate.”

During the presentation, Hon. John Ekpenyong presented the customized tournament T-Shirts to the Chairman, while Coach Udobia Udobia gave a technical briefing on the competition format, LGA participation, and talent development objectives.

In his remarks, Hon. John Ekpenyong appreciated Comrade Felix Udo and the Committee for the endorsement. He confirmed that the tournament will kick off on 20th September 2026 at the Eket Township Stadium with the opening match between Mkpat Enin LGA and Ikot Abasi LGA. and is in honor of Senator Dr. Ekong Sampson to foster unity in the Senatorial District.

Also speaking, Coach Udobia Udobia assured that the technical team has put robust structures in place to guarantee transparency, fair play, and the emergence of credible talents that will do the state and nation proud.

The grand finale of the maiden edition is scheduled for 11th October 2026.
