Edo Queens, Rivers Angels in grudge mission

The reigning champions of the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL), Edo Queens of Benin will today, at the Awka Township Stadium Anambra State, renew domestic rivalry against a top-flight side, Rivers Angels of Port Harcourt in the round of 16 game of the President Federation Cup title hunt.

The newly crowned champions of the NWFL Super six for 2023/24 season will be going into today's encounter with vigour, force and determination being that both teams have been long time rivals in the annals of the NWFL since inception.

Edo Queens and Rivers Angels have met severally in competitive football. There has been a long running football battle of supremacy between both teams. These two NWFL giants took part in the just concluded NWFL Super Six, but at the end, the Red-hot ladies from Benin City were crowned champions.

This is another opportunity for women football giants in the land to prove themselves.

The President Federation Cup is the oldest football fiesta in Nigeria. So it won't be out of place to say that today's cracker between Edo Queens and Rivers Angels is most likely to be the biggest showpiece of Round of 16 of the FA Cup.

Coming on the heels of the just concluded Super Six, Moses Aduku, tutored girls will like to cash in on the scitinlating performance exhibited at the Super Six to stamp their authority as reigning champions.

Edo Queens got to the semifinals in the 2023 editions played in Awka Township Stadium, but were edged out By Bayelsa Queens by a lone goal in a controversial defeat that generated heat from football fans leading to questions been raised about the capability and competency of some Nigeria match officials to handle sensitive matches of such magnitude.
