The coast is clear, the dye is cast, the stage is set the NWFL premiership regular season is done and dusted, given birth to the Super 6.
Time to separate the ladies from the girls has come, time for the good, the bad, and the ugly is now. Time to laugh and time to be sober and finally, time to determine who wears the glamorous NWFL Super six crown is just few days from now.
Rivers State is the host for the six participating NWFL teams who are already roaring and warming up to show their stuff.
Call it battle royale, call it titanic battle, call it fight to finish, call it battle of two elephants, you are right. But what matters most is that at the end of this fierce encounter, one team would be crowned champions of the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) premiership, and Nigeria would also have her flag hoisted at the WAFU- B and CAF Women Champions League fiesta for 2026.
If you ask me I will kindly tell you that is Edo Queens.
The much anticipated battle will commence Friday June 5th, 2026, in Garden City of Port Harcourt a State known for her hospitality were social life is at its peak.
For the participating teams, it is real football business, a competition were old records are broken and new ones set, a competition were various club coaches and managers will be accessed based on capacity, competence, technicalities as well as their inadequacies exposed. It is also an opportunity for the players to show their stuff, a competition were the good the bad and the ugly will be exposed in all areas of the round leather game. A competition were the fate of club managers will
be determined by their various employers. It is also an opportunity for players to renew contracts or get new ones. Finally it will also give Nigerian football pundits an opportunity to access the organizational capacity of those managing the NWFL .
For the purpose of history let's take a statistical look at the various clubs participating in this year's super six based on their track records till date.
EDO QUEENS FC OF BENIN:
It is no longer news that Edo Queens has become a house hold name in the annals of African Women Football. Is also one of highly rated team in the Nigeria Women Football League NWFL premiership. Edo Queens was formerly called 'INNE QUEENS' before it metamorphose into Edo Queens when it was taking over by Edo State government during the tenure of Comrade Adams Oshomhole as governor of Edo State.
Edo Queens from inception has been one of the best managed women club side in the country because of the solid foundation laid for sports development by late Dr. Samuel Osaigbovo Ogbemudia.
Then (Bendel State), now Edo State has become the hub of Nigeria of Sports.
Edo Queens as it were have done very well in the history of Nigeria Women Football League premiership (NWFL). They won medal in Bauchi 2000.
Highly respected indigenous coaches have managed Edo Queens since inception.
They also won medal in Bauchi 2000
Coach Ken Aigbe, Late Pa Godwin Izilein, Rollanson Odeh, and Stanley Seyi Osazee. Other non indigenous coaches that have also tested the sensitive position are late Sunny Iwegbu, Mathew Wemimo and Moses Aduku.
However, Edo Queens got to the peak of pinnacle under the current coach Moses Aduku, who won the first ever league trophy for the club in 2023/2024 NWFL premiership season and went on to represent Nigeria at the continental level were he conquered and won WAFU-B laurel for the State and for and Nigeria.
Edo Queens have also won some pre- season tournament under him. He has also taking the team to the semifinals stage of the President Federation Cup where he loss 2-0 to Nasarawa Amazons in 2025.
Edo Queens have participated in almost all the editions of the Super 6 till date. The Benin- City based ladies are currently in Rivers State to conquer again as the quest for Super 6 glory begins this weekend.
BAYELSA QUEENS FC.
Another good side from Niger/Delta region. Was founded in the year 2000 by late Elder John Pinaowei. Originally started as Garden City Angels.
They have also made history in the annals of African Women Football. Champions of the NWFL premiership title a number of times. They have also represented Nigeria at the CAF level twice. They also won pre- season tournament as well as the President Federation Cup. They are not a team to push over. They are the defending champions of the NWFL, and are already in Port Harcourt for
the supremacy battle.
Coach Moses Aduku, took them to winning the NWFL premiership title two times, won the PFC,Cup ones and also the Champions of Champions Cup.
RIVERS ANGELS FC
A big name in Nigeria and Africa women football. Established and started as Larry Angels FC by Prince Lawrence Ezeh, a native of Mbaise in Imo State. They have won the NWFL premiership title a number of times, won the FA cup too, represented Nigeria at CAF level. Currently the host State for this year's edition of the Super 6. They have an experience coach at the middle of the affairs Tosan blankson, who is equally here to fight for laurels. He has an edge over others because of the home supports. But modern day football is full of intrigues and surprises it is the best team that carry day. Respect for home teams is thrown into the wings.
NASARAWA AMAZONS FC
Very prominent name in the Nigeria Women Football League NWFL premiership. Was established in 2003. One of the big woman football club in the North. Tutored by another experienced coach Dr. Christopher Danjuma. Nasarawa Amazons have attended few editions of the Super 6. They have also won the FA cup and pre- season tournament to their 0credit. Nasarawa Amazons is the pride of the North when you talk about women football. They are presently in Rivers State to fight for honours inw this Super 6 battle.
FC ROBO QUEENS OF LAGOS
FC Robo Queens is a privately owned and managed by Emmanuel Osahon, an Edo State born person but Lagos based. He is a guru in women football management with his name written in gold for women football management. Very serious minded man in football business. Known for grass root development, he has raised and taken so many Lagos girls away from the streets through football. He has fathered a lot of super Falcon players to the limelight of their carriers in the round leather game.
FC Robo as one of the giants in NWFL, have participated in major women football competition in the land. Some times winner of Betsy Obaseki Women Football pre- season tournament (BOWFT) held in Benin- City. FC Robo top group B are now in Rivers State to fight for glory in the NWFL Super 6 battle.
ABIA ANGELS FC.
Abia Angels is a state owned government5 team. It was founded in 2008, formerly known as Ologa FC.
They suffered some setbacks earlier in the formative years. They have had their presence felt in the Nigeria Womenf Football League NWFL .
Despite all odds, they did very well during the regular league season. they fought galantly to qualify for the Super 6. They are one of the underdogs in this competition. Being their first appearance in Super 6, they are here to make a statement. And one of the team to watch out for.
