Wale Canada Inter-Ward Football Competition: Oyo FA releases fixtures, lauds Commissioner

The Oyo State Football Association (Oyo FA) has officially released the fixtures for the much-anticipated Wale Canada Inter-Ward Football Competition, setting the stage for an exciting grassroots football festival across Atisbo and Saki East Local Government Area of Oyo State.

The tournament, sponsored by the Oyo State Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Honourable Wasilat Adegoke, in honour of her husband, popularly known as Wale Canada, is aimed at discovering young football talents, fostering unity among communities, and promoting grassroots football development within his constituency.

According to the fixtures released by the Oyo State FA, 21 wards will compete in 21 matches, with the competition adopting the slogan "21 Wards for 21 Matches with One Ball and One Goal."

The championship will be played across two centres—Saki East Centre and Atisbo Centre—before progressing to the Super Semi-finals, Third-Place Match and the Grand Finale.

The opening match kicked off at the Community High School, Idi-Emi, Sepeteri, where Ward 2 Ago-Amodu faced Ward 10 Sepeteri on Sunday, August 2, 2026, while fixtures at the Atisbo Centre began on Monday, August 3, at ADS High School, Ago-Are.

The Saki East Centre will host nine preliminary matches, while the Atisbo Centre will also stage eight first-round encounters before the winners advance to the knockout stages.

The Super Semi-finals have been scheduled for Wednesday, August 12, with the Third-Place Match and the Final taking place on Friday, August 14, 2026, at the Community High School, Idi-Emi, Sepeteri. The championship match is billed for 4:00 p.m.

Speaking on the objectives of the tournament, Wale Canada said the competition is designed to create a platform for talented young footballers from the participating wards to showcase their abilities, while strengthening unity and peaceful coexistence among communities in the Oke-Ogun axis.

The Oyo State Football Association, as organisers of the competition, has urged participating teams, match officials and football enthusiasts to uphold the spirit of fair play throughout the tournament.

Football stakeholders have described the initiative by Honourable Wasilat Adegoke as a significant investment in grassroots football, expressing optimism that the competition will produce outstanding talents capable of progressing to professional clubs and representing Oyo State and Nigeria in future competitions.
