WAFCON 2026: Malawi upset Super Falcons 3-2
It was a disappointing result as the defending champions, the Super Falcons got humbled by debutant Malawi Tuesday night in Morocco.
The Falcons were clearly a shadow of themselves with their uncoordinated play and got punished for it.
The Super Falcons struggled through the first half and were unable to get pass the Malawians.
It was a disappointing half for the 10-times champions as they were unable to put clean passes together.
The Nigerian team started the second half with the same lethargy, allowing the Malawians run round the defence but Dimeyin and Ohale provided good cover for goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie.
The Malawians were rewarded with two quick goals in the 79th and 81st minutes to create the biggest upset so far in the competition.
With the game winding down, the Super Falcons got a consolation goal from the penalty spot through Rashedat Ajibade but almost immediately, the Malawians scored a third goal after a goalkeeper Nnadozie gaffe. Kanu did reduce the tally for Nigeria but it was too late for a comeback.
