Tinubu: Super Eagles display resilience of the Nigerian spirit
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has delivered a ringing message of pride and praise to Nigeria’s Super Eagles after their bronze-medal finish at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, applauding the team’s resilience and refusal to be broken by disappointment.
The President congratulated the national team following Saturday’s hard-fought victory over seven-time champions Egypt, sealed in a penalty shootout after regulation time in which Nigeria held the upper hand.
For Tinubu, the result was more than a win, it was a statement of character.
Still smarting from their semi-final loss to host nation Morocco earlier in the week, the Super Eagles responded the only way they knew how, by standing tall.
Tinubu noted that while the defeat dashed hopes of lifting the trophy, the players “remained undaunted” and embodied the determination, persistence and can-do spirit synonymous with Nigeria.
“Our people’s hopes of winning the championship were dashed,” the President said, recalling the penalty shootout loss to Morocco. “However, exhibiting the resilience of the Nigerian spirit, their efforts have now paid off.”
Tinubu said the nation would take pride as the Super Eagles receives their medals, describing the bronze as hard-earned and richly deserved.
His message to the squad was clear, falling short of the title did not diminish their achievement.
“Thank you, our gallant Super Eagles. Thank you, our national team players,” the President said. “This bronze medal surely feels good like gold.”
In Tinubu’s words, Nigeria’s AFCON journey ended not in regret, but in resolve, with a team that refused to fold and a medal that carries the weight of resilience.
