Tella: I'm happy to score, help my team qualify
In the absence of Victor Boniface, his fellow Super Eagles and club teammate, Nathan Tella has ensured that Nigeria keeps ringing in the ears of Bayer Leverkusen fans.
On Thursday, Tella scored his first-ever UEFA Champions League goal in the team’s 2-0 triumph over Sparta Praha at the BayArena.
Florian Wirtz had given Leverkusen the lead in the first half before Tella sealed the victory 26 minutes left to play.
Speaking after the game, Tella admitted some frustration over missed opportunities during the match but he's consoled that he finally netted the winner.
"We had to try our luck. We knew that it was in our hands if we won, we would automatically be in the top eight," Tella told Bayer Leverkusen's official webpage.
"I felt that we played good and missed a lot of chances but frustrated that I missed more than I should have expected.
"But I am happy that I am able to score and qualify is the main thing.”
Tella is feeling optimistic as Leverkusen prepare for a crucial Bundesliga clash against Bayern Munich this weekend.
"Feeling confident. It's always nice to win especially in big games and tonight is another big game, where we were able to get a good win in front of our fans and progress to the next round," he added.
