Super Eagles now to play Argentina in the US

AFCON 2023 runners up, the Super Eagles of Nigeria will now play Lionel Messi's Argentina’s national football team in the US after China scrapped friendly matches due to controversy over Lionel Messi’s no-show in Hong Kong.

The match will now hold in Los Angeles on March 26, according to a statement on the Argentina Football Association website.

The 2022 World Cup champions will however first play El Salvador on March 22 in Philadelphia before the Super Eagles match four days later.

Argentina was supposed to play Nigeria in Hangzhou and Ivory Coast in Beijing in March. But those matches were canceled after Messi didn’t take part in an exhibition match between his club side, Inter Miami and a select Hong Kong team earlier this month, which many regarded as a deliberate snub.
