Stakeholders blame Gusau for woes of Nigerian football

Nigerian football fans, stakeholders and investors, once again, experienced another heartbreak as Nigeria male and female national football teams failed in their bids to pick tickets to their various football mundial.

It is no longer news that Nigeria national football teams from the Super Eagles, to the male and female age-grade teams have consistently failed to proudly fly the country’s flag at several international tournaments.

The Amaju Pinnick and Ibrahim Gusau's tenures as presidents of the Nigeria Football Federation consecutively, has seen Nigeria failing to qualify for back to back (2022-2026) World Cup tournaments.

The latest heartbreak is the lacklustre and disappointing outings of the Super Falcons at the 2026 WAFCON tournament. Beginning from the NFF's lackadaisical approach to the team's preparations, the handwriting was obvious. Failing to plan, is planning to fail.

Ibrahim Gusau and his clueless NFF board can't cry that they lacked financial and moral supports from the National Sports Commission (NSC).

This writer gathered also that huge supports was given to the NFF by the NSC. The NSC, without interference and unconditional provisions, ensured the Super Falcons were adequately encouraged.

Bonuses were paid to the team even after the shocking loss to Malawi, same as the dollars rain for the victories over Zambia and Egypt.

The Super Falcons were also accommodated in Marriot Hotel, in Casablanca, one of the most comfortable and expensive hotels in Morocco.

The inability of Nigeria to qualify for consecutive FIFA World Cups and other major international championships, are enough to indict Ibrahim Gusau and shame many of his ilks, who obviously lack integrity.

In other saner climes, Gusau his supporters would scurry to bury their heads in shame and never come near Nigerian football.
