... As Ikpeme takes over Secretariat

In the next couple of minutes, Alhaji Ibrahim Gusau is expected to formally resign as President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and the jostling to replace him has begun.

www.sportsunlimited.ng understand that the likely successor has been narrowed to the South West, where four candidates are being considered.

According to a source in the football circle, the four names being peddled include a former senior member of the NFF, a popular club owner and investor, an FA chairman as well as a former lawmaker.

The consideration is that apart from the tenure of impeached Kojo Williams, which lasted just three months, nobody from the zone has ever been in charge of the football house since Inception in 1945.

However, those allegedly being shortlisted from the South West belong to two different factions in the corridor of sports administration, making it difficult to arrive at a smooth decision.

Meanwhile, with the resignation of the General Secretary of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Dr Mohammed Sanusi, his deputy, Dr Emmanuel Ikpeme (MON) has effectively taken charge of the federation as the most senior ranking officer.

Mallam Sanusi joined the NFF president and members of his board to resign after heats were mounted on them to exit the saddle due to the falling standard of Nigerian football.
