The Director General/Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Institute of Sports (NIS), H.E. Comrade Philip Shaibu, has extended warm congratulations to Mr. Samson Adamu on his historic appointment as the Acting General Secretary of the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
In a statement he personally signed, Shaibu described Adamu’s emergence as a moment of pride for Nigeria and a manifestation of the country’s growing influence in global sports administration.
He noted that Adamu’s appointment ratified by the CAF Congress on Sunday, March 29, 2026, in Cairo, Egypt marks a step forward, as he becomes the first Nigerian to occupy the position in over 70 years of CAF’s existence.
“Your appointment is not only well-deserved but also a clear recognition of your linguistic dexterity, competence, dedication, and wealth of experience in football administration,” Shaibu stated.
He commended Adamu’s track record, particularly his previous role as CAF Director of Events and Tournaments, where he contributed immensely to the successful organization of major continental competitions.
He also highlighted Adamu’s global exposure, including his graduation from the prestigious FIFA Master’s Programme in 2009, as well as his multilingual capabilities, which positioned him strongly for the demands of the office.
Shaibu further expressed confidence that Adamu would bring professionalism, innovation, and integrity to the role, especially at a time when African football continues to evolve on the global stage.
“Your elevation to this sensitive and strategic position is a source of inspiration to many young Nigerians and sports administrators across Africa. I have no doubt that you will justify the confidence reposed in you and contribute meaningfully to the growth and development of football on the continent,” he added.
The NIS DG/CEO also acknowledged the outgoing General Secretary, Veron Mosengo-Omba of DR Congo, for his service to CAF, while wishing him success in his future endeavors.
Shaibu however, wishes Samson Adamu a successful and impactful tenure as Acting General Secretary of CAF.
