The Nigeria Police Machine Team produced a spirited second-half comeback to edge the Department of State Services (DSS) 3-2 in a thrilling football encounter during the Association of Heads of Federal Establishments (AHFE) Civil Service Week tournament in Uyo.
DSS took control of the first half and deservedly went into the break with a 1-0 lead after dominating proceedings with disciplined defending and quick attacking play. The Police side responded strongly after the restart, creating several scoring opportunities but were repeatedly denied by the outstanding DSS goalkeeper, whose fingertip saves kept his team in front. The Police also struck the woodwork four times in a frustrating spell.
The pressure eventually paid off as the Police Machine Team restored parity before DSS regained the lead to make it 2-1. Refusing to give up, the Police side mounted another wave of attacks, scoring twice in the closing stages to complete a dramatic 3-2 comeback victory.
Among the spectators were AHFE Chairperson, Mrs. Uduak Essien, alongside dignitaries from the Nigeria Police Force and the DSS, who were treated to an entertaining contest. Deputy Director of the Advanced Space Technology Applications Laboratory (ASTAL), Dr. Musa Ibrahim, described the match as "thrilling," adding, "I want the best team to win. This game is generating healthy competition and camaraderie among participating establishments."
