Curro Halala Cup Grand Finale Kicks Off the Summer of Football – Friday, 7 August 2026

The road to glory reaches its climax as the Curro Halala Cup Grand Finale launches the Summer of Football at HeronBridge College. After weeks of intense competition, South Africa's rising football stars will battle for championship honours in a showcase of exceptional talent, determination and school pride. With everything on the line, supporters can expect an electric atmosphere as the first major champions of the SuperSport Schools Summer Season are crowned.

The Curro Halala Cup, launched in 2025, has quickly established itself as one of South Africa's premier school football tournaments, providing young players with a national platform to showcase their talent, gain recognition and create pathways into the professional game. The inaugural competition featured 64 teams from eight provinces, with Northern Academy defeating Norkem Park High School in the final at HeronBridge College to become the first champions.

Returning from 7–10 August, the second edition of the boys' tournament will see 24 teams compete for the title. Sixteen schools qualified through regional and provincial playoffs, while Curro Century City, Mondeor High School, Waterstone College and Curro Thatchfield received wildcard entries. Defending champions Northern Academy, runners-up Norkem Park High School, Grey College and Navalsig also secured automatic qualification after finishing in last year's top four.

The tournament continues to grow in 2026 with the introduction of the inaugural Curro Halala Girls' Cup, taking place from 14–16 August at HeronBridge College. Sixteen invited schools will compete in a round-robin format followed by knockout playoffs, creating another elite platform for girls' school football in South Africa.

Val Fowler Tournament Tips Off the Summer of Basketball – Saturday, 8 August 2026

The prestigious 34th Val Fowler Basketball Tournament, taking place from 6–9 August, continues to cement its place as South Africa's largest all-girls invitational basketball tournament. Originally established in 1992 as the Pietermaritzburg Girls' High School Invitational Tournament, it was renamed in 2015 in honour of Valerie (Val) Fowler, recognising her outstanding leadership, coaching and lasting contribution to the growth of schoolgirls' basketball in South Africa as principal and first-team coach at Pietermaritzburg Girls' High School.

The tournament attracts elite teams from across South Africa and abroad, with 32 teams competing in the A and B divisions. Featuring FIBA-accredited referees and attended by university scouts, it has become a premier platform for showcasing and developing the country's next generation of basketball talent. Host school Pietermaritzburg Girls' High School is the tournament's most successful side with 24 titles, while Pretoria Girls' High School and Lereko Secondary School have also established themselves among South Africa's leading school basketball programmes.

Football and Basketball Deliver a Super Sunday – Sunday, 9 August 2026

The excitement continues with another spectacular day of school sport. The Curro Halala Cup Grand Finale concludes at Heronbridge College, where champions will be crowned following an exhilarating weekend of football.

Football fans can also look forward to the GDL clash between Kaizer Chiefs and Panorama at Naturena Village. The match will be broadcast live from 09:00 to 17:00 on SuperSport Schools Channel 216, the SuperSport Schools App and SABC, giving supporters across the country the opportunity to witness the action as it happens.

Basketball remains firmly in the spotlight as the Val Fowler Tournament continues at Pretoria Boys High School, with matches streamed live on the SuperSport Schools App, ensuring fans stay connected to every basket, every buzzer-beater and every defining moment.
