Lobi Stars Football Club of Makurdi has officially ushered in a new chapter in its football journey with the unveiling of Coach Bala Nikyu as the new Head Coach of the Pride of Benue.

The event, which was held at the McCarthy Stadium, Makurdi, on Tuesday, June 30, 2026 brought together the club’s management, technical crew, players, staff and members of the media as the club unveiled a new football architect entrusted with the responsibility of guiding Lobi Stars back to the Nigeria Premier Football League.

In his speech, Chairman of Lobi Stars Football Club, Simon Terver Ikya, described the occasion as more than a mere unveiling, but a defining moment that signals a renewed direction and collective commitment towards achieving the club’s ambitions.

Presenting Coach Nikyu, Ikya highlighted his wealth of experience and deep understanding of Nigerian football, urging players and staff to give the new gaffer maximum support.

He appreciated the contributions and support of the Executive Governor of Benue State, Governor Hyacinth Iormem Alia, assuring that Lobi Stars under his leadership will continue to justify the confidence of the government and people of Benue State.

Coach Bala Nikyu, who in his last appointment guided Nasarawa United back to the Nigeria Premier Football League in the 2023/2024 season, brings over a decade of CAF A Licence experience and vast technical knowledge to the Pride of Benue.

Speaking after his unveiling, Coach Nikyu expressed his full commitment to the assignment, promising to build a positive legacy in Benue while working towards returning Lobi Stars to the top flight. He said the focus would be on hard work, discipline and on field results.

During the media interaction, the coach maintained that his football strategies would speak through performance, while Chairman Ikya revealed that seventeen players have been retained, with more additions expected to strengthen the squad.

Ikya charged everyone connected with the club to rise to the occasion, stressing that the target remains promotion back to the Nigeria Premier Football League.

The club’s Secretary, Terzungwe Chugh, in his closing remarks appreciated the efforts of the coaching crew and backroom staff, urging the new technical team to work together and ensure the Pride of Benue regains its place among Nigeria’s football elite.

The highlight of the ceremony was the official unveiling and contract signing between Coach Bala and Lobi Stars, conducted by Chairman Simon Terver Ikya, followed by the introduction of the new coach to the players, management and staff of the club.
