NSC laud NBF on Boxing Week, pledges continued support
The Director General of the National Sports Commission Hon. Bukola Olopade has extol the board of the Nigeria Boxing Federation (NBF) for a top-notch organization of the ongoing National Boxing Week and Commonwealth Games open trials in Lagos.
The DG who was present at the event on Tuesday praised the NBF leadership for their dedication to an all round boxing development through the training of its officials, coaches, and creating an enabling environment for the boxers to further hone your skills.
Olopade saw several bouts at the Brai Ayonote Boxing Gym at the National Stadium in Surulere, and he expressed delight in the nations prospect at the forthcoming Commonwealth Games in Glasgow Scotland.
"I am thrilled at the grit and techniques of these young boxers, their moves and knowledge of the sport is truly heartwarming to note, i am sincerely excited our nation's prospects at the boxing event at the Commonwealth Games".
In his desire to further encourage the boxers, the DG announced a significant increase in the slots for boxers to the Games in Glasgow.
"Based on all i have seen today, I am confident that boxing stand a better chance to secure more podium placement at the Commonwealth Games, hence we have decided to increase the number of our pugilists to the games".
The DG assures the Nigeria Boxing Federation of the NCS supports beyond the boxing week and proper camping programs for the boxers ahead of the Commonwealth Games.
A total of 120 boxers both home-based and those from the diaspora are currently taking part in the Commonwealth Games open trials in Lagos.
The widely followed event, which got on the way on Sunday, March 1st, will come to a close with a grand finale on Friday the 6th of this month.
