Competition in various sports at the 20th Nigeria Oil and Gas Industry Games, NOGIG began today at Package B of the Moshood Abiola National stadium, Abuja with the gladiators making early impressions in their designated events.
There were matches in volleyball, scrabble, chess, table tennis, squash, tennis and table tennis.
In volleyball, Team NNPC defeated OANDO 2-0, NUPRC overwhelmed SHELL 2-1, while NLNG lost to ARADEL 1-2.
In the same vein, TotalEnergies were 2-0 over PTI while NMDPRA outshone ExxonMobil 2-0. In another match SEPLAT defeated NCDMB 2-1
There were also matches in tennis. In the ladies singles Daniette Oyibo, representing ARADEL defeated Ejemen Obozokhare of NMDPRA in straight sets 6/1, 6/2, while El Frada Jeddy Abiba of NMDPRA gained victory over Okeke of OANDO via walk over.
Adepoju Masade representing NLNLG led Otok Ogwuche of Chevron 6/4, before Ogwuche retired in the second set. Funke Jegede of NNPC got the better of Moranike Ogunbi of NUPRC 6/2, 6/2 while Omolapo Ajayi of Shell won via walk over, against Ohiomoba Ihife of ExxonMobil to advance.
In scrabble, the scdabble director, Khaleel Adedeji informed that the team event had just began and would be concluded today, while the singles event begins tomorrow. “We have 45 players, comprising 15 teams of three players each. The team event will be concluded tomorrow(today) while the singles begin on Wednesday,” Adeniji said.
He commended the standard of the competition,adding that there was a tremendous progress gained,especially from the female players. “I have realised that the companies have prepared very well over the years. They all want podium finish, so I expect a tough competition. So far, it has been interesting.”
