…says FG yet to give him his promise land for winning AFCON 2013
Former Super Eagles and Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel said he is reluctant to come back to Nigeria and contribute to the development of the game.
Mikel stated that Nigerian football officials are only concerned about their personal gains rather than develop the game in the country and they wouldn’t be prepared to tow his vision of football development .
“We don’t have people that know about football,” he said in a chat with Peter Crouch podcast
“They sit there year after year, they control everything. They don’t want to let go of the power, and the money they get from it.
“These are the things that need to be run properly. There have been phone calls to come back to get involved but I said no. Those people need to go. I can’t work with people that I know have the same objective as me.
“Same goal as me to be able to improve the standard of Football in Nigeria because that can be done very easily. The funds need to go to the right places.”
Meanwhile Mikel claimed that he was yet to get the plot of land promised him and other members of the Super Eagles who won the Africa Cup of Nations in 2013.
The Super Eagles coached by late Stephen Keshi braved all the odds the clinch the title and the Federal government during the tenure of President Goodluck Jonathan pledged to give the team plots of land in the Federal Capital Territory.
“We got a nice reception. We got offered a massive plot of land each, I don’t think I know where mine is,” Mikel said.
