NFF pushes forward date to announce new Super Eagles coach
Nigerians anxiously waiting to know the new Super Eagles coach will have to wait for another week as the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) may have shifted the announcement to next week Wednesday.
A source close to the football house said the decision was occasioned by the trip of the NFF president, Alhaji Ibrahim Gusau to Europe, on courtesy visit to Nigerian players nursing one injury or the other.
It was gathered that the technical committee has sealed the appointment of new Super Eagles coach, as it recommended a foreign coach deflating the whirlwind rumour that a Nigerian has been picked as the successor to former coach, Jose Peseiro.
According to SCORENigeria, the NFF technical committee met yesterday in Abuja to put a final seal to the appointment of a new coach for the Super Eagles.
From last week, the committee already recommended that a foreign coach is best placed to build on the successes of the Super Eagles after they reached the final of the recent AFCON in Cote d’Ivoire.
The delay in this appointment has generated criticisms particularly as the Super Eagles face two must-win 2026 World Cup qualifiers against South Africa and Benin in June.
Nigeria did not get off to a great start in the World Cup qualifying campaign after they drew 1-1 at home with Lesotho before holding hosts Zimbabwe to another 1-1 draw in November.
