NFF, Lulu, Akinwunmi, Owolabi, Adepoju, others mourn Nwosu's death
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) is mourning the death of Henry Nwosu.
In a statement signed by the Director of Communication, Demola Olajire quoted the NFF General Secretary, Dr Mohammed Sanusi, as saying that "Nwosu’s death, while a grim reminder of how frail we all are, is a deep stab only few days after the departure of former NFF Technical Director and two-time Head Coach of the Nigeria senior men’s team, Chief Adegboye Onigbinde.
“This is another very sad news, even as we are still mourning the demise of Chief Onigbinde. Nigeria football can never forget the enormous contributions of Henry Nwosu both as a player and a coach. We pray that God will grant him eternal rest, and also grant the family he has left behind, as well as friends and relations the fortitude to bear the loss.”
"The death of the midfield impresario brings to nine the number of the 1980 AFCON winners to have passed, with goalkeepers Best Ogedegbe and Moses Effiong, defenders Tunde Bamidele, Okey Isima and ‘Chairman’ Christian Chukwu, midfielders Mudashiru Lawal and Aloysius Atuegbu, and forward Martins Eyo having departed this world earlier.
Nigeria’s football family is also mourning the death of former Super Eagles midfielder, Henry Nwosu who died in the early hours of Saturday at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital after spending several days in intensive care. He was 62 years old.
Former Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) president, Alhaji Sani Lulu described Nwosu's death as a great loss to Nigeria.
According to him, "We've lost a great legend with the death of Nwosu. He served the country dedicatedly and he was a nice man. His death is a great loss. I pray God gives him peaceful rest and send my condolences to his family," he said.
A former vice president of the NFF, Barrister Seyi Akinwunmi said his death is devastating. "Two years ago he was very sick and we tried to help. Sadly he's gone. A great legend has fallen."
His former colleague, Chief Felix Owolabi is inconsolable. "It's so sad and I broke down in tears when Chief Odegbami broke the sad news to me. He was a very young talent and an inspiration to the youth, he's just gone like that, at a very young age but we can't question God."
For Mutiu Adepoju, the death of Henry Nwosu is not only unfortunate but a great loss. He did great things, he was a pacesetter for some of us who looked up to him."
