Worried by the growing number of youths roaming the streets of Calabar with no hope in sight for a bright future, the newly sworn-in Chairman of Calabar Municipality, Rt. Hon James Anam has come to the rescue following his plan to boost and promote sports development in an effort to curb youth’s restiveness in the area.

The Calabar Municipal Council boss who made this disclosure when College of veteran journalists in Cross River State paid him a courtesy visit in his office said since sports in a unifying factor and play a positive role in taking the children off the Streets, he will do everything within his limit to ensuring that this all-important sector is given the needed support and encouragement.

The Mayor of Calabar hinted that since there are many sports at his disposal, he will concentrate on those that will give his Council a comparative advantage.

He disclosed that the Municipal Council football club tagged the Leopards Football Club that used to be a household name in the state and national soccer scene has since went into oblivion stressing that not too long from now, the club will be resuscitated so as to feature in the Nigeria National League (NNL).

To achieve this feat, the chairman revealed that he will buy a slot and engage a reputable coach who will scout for players in reading for the National League Campaign.
