Members of the Calabar Golf Club are having their best time and can now heave a sigh of relief as trespassers who have been using the golf course as their exit routes had been caged permanently, courtesy of the Cross River State Governor, Senator Bassey Otu who had provided funds for the entire Club to be fenced round.

The gesture also included the rehabilitation of the Clubhouse, the golf Course as well as other supporting facilities.

Disclosing the cheering news to Sports journalists in Calabar, the captain of the Calabar Golf Club, Maj Gen Ahmed M Sabo (rtd) revealed that members of the club have been living with the problem for over three decades now adding that what the Cross River State number one citizen has done had gone down in history as the best thing to happen to the club since it was officially Commissioned in 1991.

He stated that the Governor who had earlier promised to revolutionize golf in the state had already commenced action in full force with the Clubhouse undergoing renovation to bring it up to global standard that would attract national and international tournaments to the state.

Also in focus according to the captain are the new gate house and parking lot that are being constructed to give the entry point of the club a face-lift inline with the tourism and sports development policy of Cross River State.

The captain further hinted that Governor Otu who is a pacesetter and has passion for the thrilling game of golf wants the Course to be lush green and playable all year round hence has okayed the installation of new piping system with sprinklers.

The captain used that opportunity to shower praises on the Governor for his unprecedented support to the club.

Collaborating with what the captain said, the vice captain of the Club, Ukel Agba posited that this intervention by the Governor has positioned the club as an important step on the tourism circuit of the state, therefore complimenting it's acclaimed reputation as Nigeria's tourism destination.
