Gateway Games:
Controversy lingers as Team Edo hits 40 gold medals The controversy over the accumulated medals ascribed to Team Edo by the Main Organising Committee (MOC) of the 22nd National Sports Festival tagged Gateway Games is still lingering. While the MOC insists that Team Edo has 30 gold, 62 silver and 57 bronze medals, the calculation made available to www.sportsunlimited.ng by the Team Edo technical officials indicate that the state has grossed 40 gold, 71 silver and 62 bronze medals as at 1.44am Monday May 26, 2025.Chairman of the Edo State Sports Commission, Hon Desmond Enabulele however believes the MOC under the leadership of Chief Bukola Olopade is giving it’s full attention and has put plans in place to rectify all the titting problems noted at the Festival. Hon Enabuelele while speaking with journalists at the Alake Sports Complex venue of the Para - Table Tennis and Gymnastics, at Abeokuta, said the gateway game has been fair so far. He expressed optimism over the performance of Edo State contingents at the ongoing Festival. The Chairman said the state is at the position it needed to be despite having a slow start at the Games. However, despite the impressive medal haul, Team Edo has raised concerns over the Main Organising Committee’s (MOC) failure to provide real-time medal updates for participating states.
