Athletes in Delta State have intensified training with four days to the commencement of the Delta State Trials for the 2nd edition of the Niger Delta Games holding in Benin City, Edo State.
A visit to the iconic Steven Keshi International Stadium Asaba as well as some sporting facilities across the state, young athletes were seen sweating it out and working hard to ensure they made the cut for the Regional Games.
Their Coaches took them through several drills in a bid to enhance their preparedness ahead the Trials which has 17 sporting events.
Some of the athletes and Coaches who spoke off camera, expressed gratitude to the Niger Delta Development Commission for giving young athletes a platform to showcase their skills as well as enhancing their development. According to them, the Niger Delta Games would help them transition from Amateur Athletes to Professional Athletes asserting that the decision to make it an Under-20 games was apt.
The 2nd Edition of the Niger Delta Games commences February 20 at the Samuel Osaigbovo Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City with over three thousand athletes from the nine states in the Niger Delta participating.
