Coast clear as Elegbeleye finally resigns

Finally, the last hurdle for the expected normalisation of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has been cleared.

Yesterday, the leadership of the National Sports Commission (NSC) were battling to get the only Executive Committee member of the NFF, Honourable Gbenga Elegbeleye to complete the clean sweep of the Executive Committee.

www.sportsunlimited.ng gathered that the former chairman of Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) has finally signed the prepared resignation letter, paving the way for the expected FIFA Normalisation Committee to take off.

The Commission assumed that Elegbeleye forced resignation would prevent the Congress from making a strong case for interim regime for NFF as opposed to FIFA Normalization that the Commission's preffered.

The major difference between the two regimes is the time. While interim regime takes between 3-6 to conclude it's activities, normalisation takes 6-12 months, according to findings.

However, FIFA is expected to have full control of the Normalization regime with participation from all the relevant stakeholders including the Congress.

We reported yesterday that attempts were made to lobby the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila and the First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu while Elegbeleye was said to also trying to exploit his contacts in the Presidency.
