‎British Cycling pledges support for Nigeria's cycling devt

‎British Cycling has pledged its support for its Nigerian counterpart, the Cycling Federation, CFN in its efforts to transform cycling in the country.

‎This, it disclosed, it will do through a development strategy focused on training, improved facilities, greater visibility and athletes-centred programmes.

‎According to the British Cycling Sport and Partnership, BCSP, Director, Amy Gardner, the initiative prioritises grassroots development, coaching education and athletes welfare, with the aim of building confident and competitive cyclists capable of excelling on the world stage.

‎This partnership is set to redefine Nigeria's cycling landscape - positioning the nation for long-term success, stronger international representation and a thriving cycling culture nationwide.

‎Speaking during the visit to CFN and a tour of cycling facilities inside the velodrome at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja on Tuesday, the BCSP Director reaffirmed her organization's commitment to supporting cycling development in Nigeria through strategic partnership and knowledge sharing.

‎Gardner said the focus would be on building diplomatic sporting relations, promoting inclusion and creating sustainable programmes for youth development as she praised Nigeria's world-class velodrome, describing it as a rare and valuable asset in Africa with huge potential to produce future champions and elevate the nation's cycling profile globally.

‎Responding, president of the Cycling Federation of Nigeria, CFN, Engr. Giadomenico Masari outlined growing collaboration efforts with the British Cycling since 2020 aimed at transforming cycling development in the country through strategic partnership, training and technical support.

‎Stressing that engagement between the two cycling bodies has strengthened the relationship and opened discussions on athletes' training, coaching education, equipment support and grassroot development, the CFN president said, "the collaboration also includes high-level stakeholders engagement with key national institutions, including the National Sports Commission, NSC and the Nigeria Olympic Committee, NOC and relevant government ministries".
