Awoniyi hopes to avoid injuries
Super Eagles ace, Taiwo Awoniyi hopes to avoid missing matches due to injury as Nottingham Forest kick-start its pre-season training ahead of the new Premier League campaign.
The Reds were spotted checking in at Wilford Lane on Monday as things got started in preparation for 2024/25
Forest scraped to survival by the skin of their teeth during the last campaign and Nuno Espirito Santo will hope for better this time around.
For a number of players, the pre-season campaign will represent a chance for them to prove themselves ahead of the competitive games.
Forest has one player who has abandoned his personal plans this summer and has instead embarked on rigorous training to prepare as best he can.
Last season was such a frustrating one for Awoniyi. He began the season fit but then required groin surgery and kept breaking down.
In total he managed just 23 appearances, scoring six goals and claiming three assists across the campaign.
Forest would love to have the former Union Berlin striker fit for longer periods of the season though and he’s extremely useful on his day.
Awoniyi shared what he has been doing this summer – and also shared a quote from him on his injuries.
He posted on X: “#NFFC striker Taiwo Awoniyi swapped party islands for Nigeria to recharge and give to the community during the off-season.
“The Super Eagle returned to Europe to step up his fitness ahead of Forest’s pre-season this week.
“Awoniyi admits: “I listen more to my body now.”
No player ever chooses to be injured by Awoniyi’s groin does seem to be a real cause for concern for Forest.
He’s injured it a number of times since signing for Forest for around £18 million back in the summer of 2022 and it’s time it gets sorted.
Awoniyi brings a whole different feel to the team when he plays and Espirito Santo would dearly love to have him available.
It would appear that Awoniyi has left no stone unturned and the next season could be a big one for the 26-year-old at Forest.
