The Head of the Transport Committee for the 11th edition of the Okpekpe International 10km Road Race, HRH Eddy Umole, has assured athletes, officials, guests, media personnel, and spectators of smooth and hitch-free transportation arrangements for the event.

Speaking ahead of the highly anticipated race in Edo State, Umole disclosed that all logistics have been fully put in place to guarantee easy movement of participants to and from the race venue.

According to him, a large number of vehicles and experienced drivers have already been deployed to strategic locations to ensure that transportation challenges are completely eliminated during the event.

“We are fully prepared for this year’s Okpekpe Road Race. Adequate vehicles and drivers are on ground to convey athletes, officials, guests, and supporters conveniently to the venue. Our priority is to make movement easy, safe, and stress-free for everyone involved,” he stated.

The traditional ruler further commended the organizers of the Okpekpe Road Race for their consistency and commitment towards sustaining what he described as the biggest and most prestigious road race in Nigeria.

HRH Eddy Umole particularly praised renowned sports marketer and founder of the race, Mike Itemuagbon, for his vision and dedication to the growth of athletics in Nigeria and Africa.

He also paid glowing tribute to former Edo State Governor, Senator Adams Oshiomhole, for supporting the initiative from inception and helping to transform the Okpekpe Road Race into a globally recognized sporting event.

“We must sincerely appreciate our son, Mike Itemuagbon, for this great initiative that has continued to put Okpekpe, Edo State, and Nigeria on the global sporting map. We also commend former Governor Senator Adams Oshiomhole for his immense support and belief in the project from the beginning,” Umole added.

The Okpekpe International 10km Road Race remains the first World Athletics-certified road race in West Africa and has continued to attract elite athletes from across the world, while also boosting tourism and economic activities in Edo State.
