Athletics: Ajayi becomes Nigeria fastest man

Two Nigerian athletes recorded impressive feats at the NCAA East Regionals, coming out with record outings in their respective races.

In the men's 100 metres, Kanyinsola Ajayi made history as he powered to a new Personal Best (PB) of 9.84s (0.4) to win his race and qualify for the NCAA Championships.

He breaks the Nigerian National Record of 9.85s set by Olusoji Fasuba set in 2006.

Ajayi is also now the fastest man in the world so far in 2026, taking over the World Lead.

In the same vein, Samuel Ogazi stormed to a new PB and World Lead of 43.82s over 400m at the NCAA East Regionals.

He beat Justin Braun of the United States who ran a huge PB of 43.99s and broke the Nigerian Record in the process.
