Lagos Walking Football League returns for blockbuster Matchday 6

The beautiful game slows down, but the intensity only goes up. Matchday 6 of Season 4 of the Lagos Walking Football League (LWFL) returns this Saturday, August 29, 2026, at the spiritual home of the sport in Nigeria — the Eagle Club pitch in Surulere.

Fans are set for a thrilling morning of tactical passing, sharp teamwork, and zero sprinting, as the race for the Season 4 title enters a decisive phase.

The morning explodes into action at 9:00 AM with a clash steeped in history. First Waka A — the back-to-back champions of 2022 and 2023 and Season 2 finalists go head-to-head against Managers, who claimed the top spot last year to break their dominance.

It is a repeat of the maiden league final in Season 1, when both sides finished locked on 12 points each and had to slug it out for the trophy on goal difference.

In the second game, attention turns to the growing women's and mixed category as Waka Ladies take on Naija Gunners, a sign of how far the league has come as Season 4 now features expanded divisions including ladies teams.

Apapa Ajegunle takes on Great Legends in the third game.

The game of the day for the neutrals, however, could be the last. First Waka B enters Matchday 6 as the team to beat. Unbeaten and sitting top of the standings with a maximum 15 points from five games, they have been a defensive fortress — remarkably yet to concede a single goal this season. They face an FFC side desperate for points to climb out of the bottom half.

Reflecting on the journey so far, Mr. Godson Uti, who heads the Lagos Waka Football Association expressed delight at the impressive growth and organization of Season 4.

"I am very happy with the progress of the league in Season 4," Mr. Uti stated.

"The turnout, the discipline on the pitch, and the competitive spirit have been fantastic. We are definitely looking forward to bigger things ahead."

From four teams in a maiden edition to a full Season 4 with men's, women's and corporate interest, the Lagos Walking Football League is proving that football truly has no age limit.
