By Vincent Akinbami
Former Super Eagles player, Akin Akinsheinde has çome hard on those who said they prefer African coaches to their white counterparts.
He said coaching itself is a gift and the good ones in Africa, especially in Nigeria are not given the chance to work and most good and sincere coaches in Nigeria don't last on the scene because nobody want to give them the chance
"Those clamouring for home base coaches should ask themselves why have we not been doing well in CHAN with home based coaches.
He added that the problem with Nigeria national team home basef coaches Is that they are not picked on merit, hence they can't complain when they are being owed and result into collecting bribe.
"How do you expect an home based coach that is not well paid to be sincere in his dealings with the very rich foreign based players?
"We have not done well with CHAN with our local coaches but they are aspiring to handle the main Super Eagles, what credentials are they bringing on the table?
"The likes of Stephen keshi, Amokachie were able to do well because they were comfortable and can not tremble before the foreign based players, he said.
Akinsheinde said Clemens Westerhoof , no player will have the gut to offer money to be picked, that was why he succeeded. "Some of the players who played under him have been given enough chance, some did well, while some failed."
"We have continue to use the same set of home coaches for our national teams despite failing. They have continue to pick up appointment as national team coaches without commensurate results to show," he laminated.
Akinsheinde, who during his playing days won the 1991–92 Nigeria FA Cup with El-Kanemi Warriors also played for Kano Pillars before trading his skill in Austria with SK Rapid Wien and Vienna FC.
The former Zamalek of Egypt striker added that a building process for the next generation of coaches should start now possibly with a very knowledgeable foreign coach who will also be around to have sessions once in a while with the league coaches during his contract with the Super Eagles.
