.... My target is NPFL ticket — Festus Allen
Abubakar Bukola Saraki (ABS) Ilorin Football Club has officially unveiled experienced coach Festus Allen as the club’s new Technical Adviser, with Allen signing a one-year contract with an option to extend.
The experienced tactician was unveiled on Wednesday at the Taiwo Awoniyi Media Centre, George Innih Stadium, Ilorin, marking an emotional return to a club where he began a significant chapter of his coaching career.
Speaking during his unveiling, Allen described his return to ABS Ilorin FC as an emotional comeback, acknowledging the important role the club played in his development and recognition within Nigerian football.
“The ultimate is the Premier League. But it cannot be done by one person. It is a collective effort. From the fans, the management, everyone’s hands have to be on deck for the objective.”
The newly appointed Technical Adviser stressed the importance of unity among the club’s management, players, supporters and other stakeholders in achieving the ambition of returning ABS Ilorin FC to the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).
“We have to come together as one to work towards that. Like I said, the ultimate is the Premier League.”
Allen is no stranger to ABS Ilorin FC, having previously been part of one of the most significant periods in the club’s history.
He was part of Coach Patrick Awaja’s technical crew that guided ABS Ilorin FC to the top of the Nigeria National League (NNL), securing the club’s historic first-ever promotion to the Nigerian Premier League.
Following Awaja’s departure, Allen took charge from the touchline, further strengthening his connection with the club.
His return therefore reunites ABS Ilorin FC with a coach who has a deep understanding of the club’s history, philosophy and ambitions.
Speaking on the appointment, Director of Football, Chief Alloy Chukwuemeka, described Allen as a familiar and seasoned coach whose previous experience with the club made his return a welcome development.
Chukwuemeka said the club’s mandate remains centred on developing young talents while competing at the highest level. He noted that more than 253 players have graduated from the ABS FC structure and gone on to play for clubs across Nigeria and internationally.
He also called on stakeholders, football lovers and partners within the Kwara football ecosystem to support the club’s ambition of returning to the NPFL.
The club also expressed its appreciation to its Proprietor, His Excellency Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, for his unwavering commitment to the continued existence and development of ABS Ilorin FC. For several years, Saraki has consistently sustained the club and ensured that it remains an important platform for nurturing young football talents in Kwara State and providing opportunities for players to pursue professional careers. His enduring support and commitment have played a significant role in keeping the club active and competitive over the years.
ABS Ilorin FC will commence preparations for the 2026/2027 season, with players expected to resume on August 28, while training will begin on August 31.
