2026 Wale Canada Inter-Ward Football Competition: Ago-Are Ward 7 lift title in grand style

Ago-Are Ward 7 of Atisbo Local Government Area emerged champions of the 2026 Wale Canada Inter-Ward Football Competition after an impressive campaign that culminated in the lifting of the coveted trophy.

The Ago-Are Ward 7 side went home with the championship trophy, medals and a cash prize of ₦750,000, following a competition that brought together talented young footballers from various wards across the participating communities.

Ward 11 Sepeteri of Saki East Local Government Area finished as runners-up and were rewarded with medals and ₦500,000, while Ward 1 Agbonle, also from Saki East, secured third place, taking home medals and ₦250,000.

Ward 5 Ofiki of Atisbo Local Government Area completed the top four and received ₦100,000.

Beyond the prize money and trophies, the organisers ensured that all participating teams were provided with jerseys, further adding colour and excitement to the competition while promoting unity, sportsmanship and grassroots football development.

Special Awards

The competition also recognised outstanding individual performances with special awards.

Adekola Musa of Ward 11 Sepeteri, Saki East, was named the Most Valuable Player (MVP) for his outstanding contribution throughout the tournament.

Gbadegesin Kehinde of Ward 2 Tede, Atisbo, emerged the Highest Goal Scorer after finding the back of the net eight times.

Oke Oluwaseyi of the victorious Ward 7 Ago-Are team was crowned Best Goalkeeper, following his impressive performances between the posts.

The Best Coach Award went to Adebayo Idowu of Ward 1 Agbonle, Saki East, in recognition of his tactical leadership and contribution to his team's strong performance.

The 2026 Wale Canada Inter-Ward Football Competition has once again demonstrated the enormous football talent existing at the grassroots, while providing a platform for young players to showcase their abilities.

Speàking at the event, Honourable Samiu Rilwan Gbadamosi popularly known as Wale Canada said he initiated the competition to strengthen relationships amongst his constituents and unearthed budding talent. :

"Beyond this competition, I strongly believe that this tournament has strengthened community interaction and promoted the values of teamwork, discipline, sportsmanship and unity through football."

On her part, the Commissioner for Youth and Sports in Oyo State, Honourable Wasilat Adegoke submitted that "The success of the tournament is expected to further inspire stakeholders to invest in grassroots football competitions that can help identify and nurture the next generation of football stars from Oyo State.

Earlier, the Chairman, Oyo State Football Association, His Royal Majesty, Alakinleye of Akinleye, Oba James Oluyemi Odeniran lauded the initiative , hethanked the spondor, Honourable Wasilat Adegoke and called on well meaning Sports enthusiasts to take a cue from the sponsor. "This initiative is worthwhile and worthy of emulation by all and sundry in the state. Congratulations to all participating teams and particularly the Einners, Ward 7, Ago Are, from Atisbo Local Government ". Kabiyesi concluded with the presentation of the trophy to the winner.
