UDU hosts 1st international media conference

The Usmanu Danfodiyo University (UDU), Sokoto will hosts its first Media International Conference five years after its Inception and accreditation of the Department of Mass Communication.

The institute, under the leadership of the Vice Chancellor, Professor

Bashir Garba (MFR) will hold the conference from June 7th - 10th 2026 at the university campus.

The Conference theme "Media and National Development in the Era of Artificial Intelligence"

comes at a time when the developing world is at risk of being left behind in the emergence of new technologies.

The keynote paper is to be delivered by double Fulbright Scholar, Prof. Kehbuma

Langmia of Howard University Washington DC, while the pre-conference lecture will be delivered by Cairo University Media scholar, Professor Fatma El-Sayed.

Two days of technical sessions and paper presentations will be another major highlight of the

conference as Professor Umar Pate, former Vice Chancellor Federal University Kashere, Gombe

State, and current Vice Chancellor of Northwest University Sokoto, Professor Mukhtar Umar

Bunza will chair some of the technical sessions.

Among lead paper presenters o f the sessions are Dr Ola Ifatimehin of Bayero University Kano and Dr Sam Unwana Akpan of Mass

Communication Department University of Lagos.

The 4-day conference promises to be a gathering of world-renowned media scholars on the

ancient city of Sokoto, the seat of the caliphate.

The Head of Department o f Mass Communication, Dr Jibril Gwandu has assured the public of a great outing for visitors as well as the host university community.

"We are fully ready and surely we will witness an international conference worthy of

the reputation of our university", according to Gwandu.
