Sponsor excited as MOB National Taekwondo Championship takes centre stage in Lagos Friday

All is now fully set for the first ever Michael Opeyemi Bamidele National Taekwondo Championship which starts on Friday September 18 (today) at the Indoor Sports Hall of the National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos.

Athletes from all the states of the federation and Abuja have already arrived Lagos for the event along with clubs all over the country just as the para military bodies are also on the cards to take part in this competition.

A former Commissioner for Sports and ex- Commissioner for Information and strategy in Lagos State, Opeyemi Bamidele, is the sponsor of the tournament expected to be part of the build-up of the NTF for future international engagements like the Africa Games and the Olympic Games.

Bamidele, a Senator of the Federal Republic, is excited about the prospect of having some fresh talents discovered from the tournament.

“We always look forward to having new talents emerge from all the sports. It is important to engage youths in positive areas for their respective talents and careers,” Senator Bamidele noted.

Already, the Nigeria Taekwondo Federation (NTF), the organisers of the event has assured that that the equipment to be used for the event will be new ones in accordance with global standards.

The President of NTF, Tayo Popoola, told our correspondent on Thursday said that all was set for the two-day event.

She noted that the new equipment will serve as additional motivation for the athletes to put up their best in the competition which is the first edition.

Our correspondent recalls that on Wednesday, a training programme was organized for the officials expected to handle the technical aspects of the competition.

The Indoor Sports Hall of the National Stadium is the venue of the event expected to produce so much thrills for the lovers of the game.
