The President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Obot Akpabio has accepted to host the winners of the 10th Senate President's U-18 Unity Cup to a dinner.
The top three teams in both male and female categories will be hosted in Abuja, a gesture that underscores Senator Akpabio's commitment to youth sports development and grassroots empowerment.
During a meeting with organisers last year led by the Tournament Director and National President of the Grassroots Sports Federation (GRASOF), Hon John Ekpenyong, Senator Akpabio reaffirmed his support for the tournament, recalling that GRASOF had organized tournaments in his honor for the period he his tenure as Governor.
He praised GRASOF for its dedication to grassroots sports development and its role in nurturing young talents.
"The U-18 Unity Cup is a vital platform for discovering young talents, fostering national unity, and instilling discipline, teamwork, and leadership qualities among Nigerian youths," Senator Akpabio said.
Senate Leader Senator Opeyemi Bamidele and other distinguished Senators were present at the meeting.
Hon. John Bassey Ekpenyong expressed gratitude to Senator Akpabio for his continued support, noting that the hosting would motivate young athletes and boost confidence in grassroots sporting initiatives.
The event will include interactive sessions, sightseeing, and engagement with key stakeholders, providing a memorable experience for the young athletes.
The 10th Senate President's U-18 Unity Cup has become a flagship grassroots sports competition, reinforcing the power of sports to unite, empower, and develop Nigerian youths.
