Powerful Boys Academy launched to boost grassroots football in Kaduna

A new football academy aimed at developing young talents has been officially unveiled in Kaduna State, Nigeria.

The Powerful Boys Football Academy, founded by Engineer Sunday Harrison Haruna, is designed to nurture young players while promoting education, discipline and moral development alongside football training.

The academy features several age categories including Under-10, Under-13, Under-14, Under-16 and a senior team, creating opportunities for children to begin their football journey from an early age and develop their skills with the hope of becoming professional footballers.

More than 300 players, sports stakeholders and invited guests attended the unveiling ceremony, which many described as an important step toward strengthening grassroots football in the state.

Speaking at the event, the academy president, Engineer Sunday Harrison Haruna, said the initiative was created to provide a structured platform where young talents can be discovered and properly developed.

“We want to build boys that are sound morally and academically,” Haruna said.

“Our vision is to develop these young players to national and international standards so that they can compete and pursue opportunities on the global stage.”

Guests at the event welcomed the initiative, noting that grassroots academies remain crucial for the growth of Nigerian football.They also called for support from government and private organisations to help sustain such programmes.

“School and football can go together,” one guest said. “We need to encourage initiatives like this so that the next generation of footballers can have better opportunities.”

A highlight of the unveiling ceremony was the presentation of the academy’s various team categories and the distribution of training kits to the players, marking the beginning of what organisers hope will be a long-term project to develop future football stars.

The Powerful Boys Football Academy aims to provide a pathway for talented young players in Kaduna and beyond to grow, compete and eventually reach professional and international levels in the sport.
