Our qualification format best so far - Attah, NNL CEO
By Vincent Akinbami, Kaduna
The CEO of the Nigeria National League (NNL), Emmanuel Attah has given reasons why the NNL will still continue with the idea of having four groups in the league.
Speaking to our reporter during the NPFL Award in which he was a guest, Attah said a lot of factors were put into place before arriving at the four group format.
"We didn't just wake to decide on the four conference groups, we looked at distance to ensure teams don't go long journeys but with time we might look at the two groups format."
On the people clamouring for one team in each group to qualify to the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) from each of the four groups, Attah said the four groups that produce eight teams (that is two from each group) has shown that it's a perfect way of producing the best four.
He said looking at the performance of the NNL teams in the NPFL in the last two years, it's glaring that the best have always emerge.
"This season, we can see the performance of Warri Wolves, beating Katsina United away and winning at home. It shows the Super 8 is a good way of picking teams to go to the premier league."
He promised that the NNL would work towards aligning its calendar with that of the NPFL to end in May next year for the 2024/2025 season.
