Obi puts 'absolute trust' in God for Heartland survival

Christian Obi, head coach of Heartland of Owerri has put his 'absolute trust' in God for the Naze Millionaires relegation survival in the 2023/2024 NPFL.

"What God cannot do does not exist. We put our trust in Him in all we do believing that God will see us through", starts the former Nigeria goalkeeper when he spoke to us on Friday evening.

"As humans and those desirous of success, we'll continue to do our part which is about working hard and being prayerful, trusting in God that He will see us through.

"We've the faith; we have the mental strenght to play our part which is to keep working hard and God will perfect the rest".

The five-time Nigeria top flight winners are at the odd end of the standings but Obi is neither brooding nor giving up hope of fortune turn-around even with six games still remaining on the fixtures.

"The sweetest victory is that which comes late and the hard way. We'll overcome. Some may say it's too late in the day to strike gold. But remember, no time is late for God to do His things.

"When you score a match winner in the last minute of a game, you know the victory celebration is always something special. We just have to keep pushing and our belive is that God will see us through".

The return of the 2009 CAF Champions League finalists to their Dan Anyiam Stadium ancestral home is part of factors that pull the club ashore, off the clutches of relegation.

"Yes, we're back to Dan Anyiam Stadium, Owerri, after several weeks of sojourn to Awka and Aba for our home games", Obi said.

"Our game against 3SC (which Heartland won 1-0) was played in Owerri and it marked our official return to the Dan Anyiam Stadium.

"It's nice coming back to play at our original home, in front of our home supporters," the former Julius Berger of Lagos shotstopper quipped.
